Internet and Democracy

A new article in the New York Times talks about how internet publicity has raised awareness of a sham trial in Indonesia and may (possibly) prevent a woman from going to jail on ridiculous charges of defamation.

This goes back to our previous discussion on this blog – whatever my qualms were about the function of the internet in the U.S., I do believe it is a powerful force for good in autocracies and unconsolidated democracies.
