Eszter Hargittai recently began writing a column for the site Inside Higher Ed called “Ph.Do.” I’d recommend checking it out, she seems to have some very good advice (she also just finished Research Confidential, a book aimed at unlocking the mysteries of the research process for the uninitiated).
