Column for Ph.D Advice

Eszter Hargittai recently began writing a column for the site Inside Higher Ed called “Ph.Do.” I’d recommend checking it out, she seems to have some very good advice (she also just finished Research Confidential, a book aimed at unlocking the mysteries of the research process for the uninitiated).

Career Advice: More Than Merit – Inside Higher Ed.

I’ll just post one quote from this column that I thought was interesting (there are more):

Few people realize that the path to tenure begins in the first year of graduate school. Yes, that is not a typo, I indeed meant to write first year of graduate school. From applying to a graduate program to receiving tenure, one is engaged in one long interrelated process.
